The Common Cold

Do you have one or more of these symptoms; runny nose, body aches, cough, fever, sore throat, or nasal congestion? If so, you probably have a Rhino Virus, also known as the common cold.

Everyone sooner or later gets a cold. In fact, most adults get 2 to 5 colds each year.

Antibiotics have no effect on a cold; they are worthless in the treatment of viral illnesses and may even cause harmful side effects. To learn more about prevention and treatment of colds, please log on to Hampshire.edu and click on the Health Services.

When should you call Health Services(x5458)? If you have the following symptoms...
1. A temperature over 103F.
2. A temperature over 100F for more than 5 days.
3. Severe ear pain or loss of hearing
4. Cough with shaking chills.
5. Cough that lasts for more than 2 weeks.
6. Chest pain, wheezing, or shortness of breath.
7. Severe headache or stiff neck.
