On any given night, thousands of people around the world peer into deep space because of John Dobson, an 89-year-old with a white ponytail and a knack for comedy, who is the inventor of the Dobsonian telescope mount, a device that made telescopes accessible to the public. A former Vedanta monk of the Ramakrishna Order, he is a co-founder of Sidewalk Astronomers, an organization that encourages amateurs to share their telescopes and knowledge with others on busy city streets and in national parks. This film follows Dobson as he tours the country and encourages us to think about the universe.
Director: Jeffrey Jacobs. 2005. 78 min.
