"Taking Root" available online

"Taking Root," the wildly successful cartoon-style guide to Hampshire College, is now available online! Learn about Hampshire's history, the divisional system, and all of the campus resources available to you.

This publication is great for students, faculty, staff, parents, alumni, and anyone else interested in the college. Read it at http://star.hampshire.edu.

Originally conceived and written by two Hampshire alums, "Taking Root" has been distributed to incoming Hampshire students for the last four years. Working in conjunction with the Dean of the College and the STAR Peer Resource Center, we are happy to bring you this year's version online, for those of you who did not receive hard copies.

Enjoy!

Last week Eric Schocket was diagnosed with leukemia and he will not be available to conduct any college business or be available to students this semester. It is unclear right now whether he will be here in the Spring semester, though his long term outlook is hopeful. He is grateful for the kindness and consideration shown to him and his family by the Hampshire community. Please direct your inquiries about him to Linda McDaniel, x5362 or Susan Tracy, x5747. Thank you.

With that in mind, we would urge you to fill out this form, so that the Humanities faculty can help you find a member for your committee. Doing a Div II or Div III Project? CBD Program gives grants for student projects.

The CBD program offers grants to support Division II and Division III Projects. The application processes are competitive, with decisions made by the CBD Steering Committee based solely on the merits of each application. Division II or III students in any school whose work is related to CBD program goals are encouraged to apply. Some preference will be given to students who have taken CBD courses, but all applicants must meet the requirements of the specific grant. Students who receive travel or research grants from CBD are expected to present their work to the Steering Committee and/or at the Commencement Weekend Div III presentation event. DEADLINE FOR PROPOSAL SUBMISSION IS FRIDAY, OCTOBER 14 AT NOON. You may submit your application any time before the 14th if you don't expect to be on campus Oct. 14. HAMPSHIRE DESIGN CONSPIRACY

Open Forum: Bring your ideas. Come on, don't be shy.

Next week we'll have our illustrious alumnus and world traveler Aaron Wieler tells us about his summer experience in San Francisco and Nicaragua working with Whirlwind Wheelchair International.

The Hampshire Design Conspiracy is an informal weekly gathering for those with interests in design. The primary goal of the gathering is to provide a forum where students can get ideas, feedback, support, and inspiration from their peers. Any design idea or project is welcome for discussion. Attend as frequently or sporadically as you wish. It's not necessary for you to have a project or even have any experience in design, interest is the only prerequisite.

For more information talk to Glenn or Don at ext. 3109.
